Beach and Harbour Weddings in Sydney

The Harbour is world-renowned and the city’s beaches never fail to impress. Indeed, Sydney spoils for choice when it comes to ceremony locations near the water.

The Beach Celebration

From Palm Beach in the north to the surf beaches in the south, Sydney boasts some of the most spectacular beaches in the world. Sydneysiders love a beach ceremony; it’s a relaxed yet beautiful option for those who love the outdoors and want to celebrate in a picturesque setting. In terms of styling, simple is always best – a floral arbour, a circle of pebbles, delicate bouquets of flowers.

If you love the idea of a beach wedding but would prefer to stay away from the sand (and keep your heels on!) why don’t you consider holding your ceremony on the grass or reserve nearby? Alternatively, some locations have rotundas (Balmoral Beach is probably the most loved!) which can be perfect for the couple who love the beach but want a slightly more formal ceremony location. In regards to receptions venues, there are an abundance of beautiful options that are on or close to the beach. Most offer an interior with a neutral colour palette and contemporary scene – easy to personalise and style.

  • It may come as a surprise that regardless of which beach or reserve you choose, you need to book and pay for the privilege of marrying there. It’s advised that you contact the local council at least six months in advance to secure the location for your ceremony. A deposit is usually required and final payment must be made at least a fortnight before your wedding day. The council will expect that you leave the location exactly how you found it so make sure you have organised for someone to pack up after the ceremony.
  • If you’re near the ocean chances are it’s going to be windy so make sure you chat to your celebrant about audio options otherwise your guests may not hear a word of the ceremony.
  • If you have your heart set on a beach wedding ceremony it’s absolutely essential that you have a back-up plan in case of bad weather. Chat to your chosen reception venue about the possibility of holding your ceremony there. Better to be safe than sorry!
  • If you’re getting married on or near the beach it’s advised that you provide bottled water for your guests. Parasols or fans are another option for staying cool (plus, they add a little pretty to the styling of the ceremony!)

The Harbour Celebration

If you have guests travelling from interstate or overseas there’s no better way to impress than with a wedding on Sydney Harbour. The iconic location is stunning day and night and there are a plethora of ceremony and reception options for intimate gatherings or grand celebrations.

Fancy cruising on the Harbour and relishing in 360degree views? Why not hold your celebration on one of the many luxurious vessels available for hire. If you would prefer to stay on land but bask in the beauty of the Harbour, the venue options in the city are endless and offer a range of styles – luxurious, elegant, historic, contemporary or rustic.

Celebrating on Sydney Harbour? Why don’t you consider arriving by boat! Make a grand entrance and surprise your guests. Alternatively, there is always the option of leaving by boat at the end of the celebration. There’s nothing more romantic than newlyweds sailing off into the night.
